The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) graduate Juan Carlos de la Flor Gutiérrez is the top graduate in Spain in Humanities according to the classification published by the Society for Academic Excellence (SEDEA), which ranks a total of four UCLM graduates among the top five positions in their respective degrees.

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) student Juan Carlos de la Flor Gutiérrez heads the national ranking for Humanities graduates. It is drawn up by the Spanish Society for Academic Excellence (SEDEA) by valuing the final marks from the academic record and other skills and aptitudes of the candidates, such as knowledge of languages, complimentary training, extracurricular practices or  acknowledgments received.

Juan Carlos de la Flor Gutiérrez is a graduate in Humanities and Heritage, with a mention in History and Heritage from the Toledo Faculty of Humanities. He defended his end-of-degree thesis (entitled Sodom in the Middle Ages: The discourse on the repression of homosexuality between the fifth and fifteenth centuries), on 29th of June last year and which was tutored by professor Óscar López Gómez. The top Humanities graduate in Spain, stated he was "very proud" to hold this position and believes that recognition for this type of work is valuable to society. He attributes his good results to three factors: " constant effort day after day, even when things are complicated; the training provided by the Toledo Faculty of Humanities and the University of Castilla-La Mancha, without which I would not be where I am today; and the atmosphere because, at times, even though we try hard, financial issues or the family atmosphere may make things very difficult and in my case I was lucky to not have had all the support I needed in this respect.

Juan Carlos de la Flor Gutiérrez is studying for a Master´s in Research and Management of Historical Heritage at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. He is researching with a grant for beginning research here and the UCLM study centre.

The classification of the Spanish Society for Academic Excellence includes three other graduates from the University of Castilla-La Mancha. Diego Montes Noblejas, joint honours graduate with a degree in Law and Economics from the Albacete campus, is the top fourth Law graduate in Spain, a recognition which was added to the extraordinary end-of-degree thesis award he received last year.

In the ranking the UCLM has two fifth place positions: that for Víctor Pérez Piqueras, graduate in a Master´s from Albacete Computing Engineering; and that of Román Calcerrada Romero, graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Ciudad Real Higher School of Industrial Engineering and a Master´s graduate in Industrial Engineering from the university.
