Permanent seminar on gender

Since its inception, the Research Group in Criminology and Juvenile Delinquency has developed research lines in relation to women, who have traditionally received little attention in the discipline. It also aims to encourage the challenging, from a gender perspective, of criminological theories, empirical findings and practices in the field.

Advancing this agenda, the permanent seminar aims to create a space for dialogue and reflection on the impact of gender in all issues of Criminology. Our wish is to contribute to constructing a Criminology which is committed to human rights, and which challenges, and helps to reduce, inequality and discrimination.

The seminar is structured around regular six-monthly sessions in which scientists and professionals present gender-related research works or experiences applied to the field of Criminology, discuss relevant criminological publications that address questions of gender, and analyse how women and men are represented in cultural products associated with crime, victims and social control.

The nature of these sessions is interdisciplinary and participatory in such a way that not only are gender-related studies disseminated, but also a constructive debate is encouraged on how to ensure criminology is inclusive and committed to the rights and needs of all citizens.

It is our intention to collaborate and create synergies with other centres, research groups, organisations and institutions that work on equality.
